Farotimi spoke in response to comments by government spokespersons who argued that the situation reflects a one-party dominance rather than a formal one-party state. He, however, dismissed the distinction as largely superficial, suggesting that the current political alignment reveals deeper issues about governance and elite consensus.
He explained that, in his view, the development exposes what he described as a lack of real ideological or structural differences among those in power, regardless of political, ethnic, or religious divisions. He added that this realisation could help Nigerians better understand the nature of the country’s political class.
According to him, “For me, it’s actually a welcome development. A lot of people will look at this and they are alarmed. I’m happy, I am very happy that they have finally shown Nigerians that regardless of their multiple differences, religious, sectarian, ethnic, there are no differences amongst the ruiners of Nigeria. Right there in Jos, I heard it with my own ears, persons who came from the ethnicities that had just been decimated that has been experiencing genocidal attacks for decades were saying that the latest attack was calculated to embarrass the president.”
