Drone footage shows a huge coastal village fire in Malaysia that has destroyed around 1,000 homes and displaced over 9,000 people, according to authorities.
The blaze began early on Sunday (19 April) in one of Sabah’s water villages and spread rapidly through rows of wooden houses on stilts above the sea.
Strong winds and the proximity of the homes helped fuel the fire, according to officials, while narrow access routes and low-tide conditions made it harder for emergency crews to reach the affected areas and contain the fire.
No deaths have been reported, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
