For Amos Orwa, the journey to new opportunities did not begin with a grand plan, but with a simple, selfless act from someone who owed him nothing.

At the time, Orwa was working at Kijabe Mission Hospital, focused on his duties and quietly holding onto hope for a better future.
Who helped Orwa move from Kenya?
He told NgGossips that he had no idea that a colleague, more of an acquaintance than a close friend, would soon play a defining role in his life.
Her name was Brenda Gathenya, and to Orwa, she remains a reminder that life-changing help can come from the most unexpected places.

“Brenda occasionally collaborated with a humanitarian organisation operating in South Sudan,” Orwa started.
When an urgent opening emerged for a nurse willing to travel immediately to Maban County, she did not hesitate: she recommended Orwa.
How much was Orwa paid in South Sudan?
There were no obligations, no family ties, no expectation of reward. Just a belief that he was the right person for the opportunity. That single recommendation set off a chain reaction.
Within days, Orwa was on his way to South Sudan, stepping into an environment that would challenge him, sharpen his skills, and expand his worldview.
The shift to KSh 50,000 monthly was an upgrade from his first salary, where he took home KSh 13,000 after tax.
“We were being paid in US dollars. When I received my first pay, I was so surprised I almost asked them if all that was mine,” he recalled.

It also offered him a prime chance to connect with global professionals and build the experience he would later rely on. What followed was something Orwa could hardly have imagined.
The exposure and networks he gained abroad gradually opened further doors, eventually placing him on a path that led to opportunities linked to the United States.
What once felt distant and unattainable began to take shape, all rooted in that one unexpected act of kindness.
Orwa thankful for recommendation
Looking back, Orwa is struck not just by the opportunity itself, but by the kindhearted stranger who made it possible.
“She could have chosen anyone: a relative, a close friend, but she chose me,” he reflects. “That’s something I will never forget.”
For Orwa, a “stranger” became the bridge between where he was and where he is now. And in sharing his journey, he carries a message for others: never overlook the impact of helping someone, even when you have no reason to.
