Former Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, has addressed concerns surrounding the leadership dispute within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the party’s next steps amid legal uncertainties.….......
Tambuwal made the remarks during an interview at the ADC convention, as aired by Arise Television on Tuesday, April 14, 2026. Responding to questions about the reported derecognition of the David Mark-led faction by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Tambuwal rejected the characterization of the group as a faction.
He stated, “Well, you may say David Mark faction, the other young man, I cannot see who is with him, but if you recognize him as a faction as well, that may be your own sense of judgment, but the fact of the matter remains that this is the ADC and David Mark is our leader.”
He further criticized INEC’s interpretation of a court ruling, adding, “Despite the fact that INEC had derecognized that leadership, we believe that that interpretation of the ruling of the Court of Appeal by INEC was misplaced and a very, very wrong interpretation of the ruling and intent of that ruling by the Court of Appeal.”
When asked about the party’s course of action if a Supreme Court decision does not favor their position, Tambuwal emphasized unity among key political figures. He said, “Well, first, let me tell you and tell Nigerians that we have resolved to remain united as a political family.” He continued, “Whatever happens, if the Supreme Court says that ADC doesn’t exist, then when we get to that bridge, we’ll cross it.”
Reassuring supporters, Tambuwal added, “But rest assured, we’re going to continue to work together as one united family.” Pressed further on possible alternatives, he stated, “I have told you that we are going to remain united, we shall continue to work together, and of course, definitely we’ll have an alternative platform to make sure that we pursue our objective.”
