According to a report by Punch on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, and Florence Ajimobi, widow of former Oyo State Governor Abiola Ajimobi, have denied allegations linking them to a purported move to influence members of the Oyo State House of Assembly to impeach Governor Seyi Makinde.….......
The claims brought the Speaker of the House, Adebo Ogundoyin, into focus, prompting several lawmakers to publicly distance themselves from the alleged plot and deny any involvement in such discussions.
Reports had earlier suggested that Ogundoyin held meetings with both the Olubadan and Ajimobi’s widow, where political offers were allegedly made to sway his position. However, it was stated that the Speaker rejected any such proposals.
Reacting to the situation, the Chief Whip of the Assembly, Gbenga Oyekola, firmly denied being part of any arrangement or meeting connected to the allegations.
He said: “I cannot and will not be disloyal to my boss, Governor Seyi Makinde”
Other members of the Assembly also reaffirmed their loyalty to the governor, stressing that there was no plan within the legislature to remove him from office.
In response, the Olubadan, through his media aide, dismissed the allegations and cautioned against involving the traditional institution in political controversies, describing the claims as unfounded.
Florence Ajimobi also rejected the accusations, stating that she neither participated in nor supported any move aimed at destabilising the state government.
Ogundoyin, for his part, denied receiving any financial inducement or engaging in any plot to undermine the administration. He explained that his visit to the Olubadan was strictly for consultation regarding his governorship ambition and was carried out in line with cultural norms.
Shola Ladoja also clarified that he facilitated the Speaker’s visit to the palace at his request, noting that the purpose was simply to seek advice and blessings.
Meanwhile, some lawmakers suggested that the rumours may have been orchestrated by external political interests seeking to create division within the state.
