According to a report by Reuters on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, Russia has said it is prepared to increase energy supplies to China ahead of an expected visit by President Vladimir Putin, as the two countries deepen economic and diplomatic cooperation.….......
Speaking at a press conference in Beijing on Wednesday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, as reported by Russian state news agencies, said Moscow was ready to expand energy exports to meet growing Chinese demand. He also indicated that Putin’s visit to China is expected in the first half of the year, with some reports suggesting it could take place during the week beginning May 18, according to the Vedomosti newspaper citing unnamed sources.
Lavrov made the remarks following a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, who reaffirmed Beijing’s commitment to strengthening ties with Moscow. Xi said China and Russia should continue to build mutual trust, deepen cooperation, and support each other’s core interests amid a shifting global landscape.
The diplomatic engagement comes as global attention turns to upcoming high-level meetings involving world leaders, including a scheduled visit by U.S. President Donald Trump to China on May 14 and 15, his first trip to the country in eight years.
Lavrov stated that Russia is ready to assist China and other nations affected by instability in global energy markets, particularly amid tensions linked to the Middle East.
“Russia can, of course, make up for the resource shortfall facing both China and other countries that are interested in working with us on an equal and mutually beneficial basis,” he said.
He further argued that Russia and China possess sufficient capacity and resources to reduce dependence on what he described as disruptive U.S. influence in global energy markets. Lavrov said both countries have existing and planned capabilities that allow them to withstand external pressure and maintain stability in energy supply chains.
