Professor Pat Utomi, Deputy Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Manifesto and Policy Committee, has attributed internal challenges within political parties to external interference, stating that such disruptions are not unique to a single platform.….......
Utomi made the remarks during an interview on Arise Television on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, while responding to questions about whether the difficulties facing the ADC stem from internal divisions or actions by regulatory authorities.
Addressing the issue, Utomi said, “First and foremost, as with Labour Party, PDP, as now with ADC, some unseen hands, probably quite seen but not trying to be who he is, is trying to disrupt these parties.”
He noted that internal differences are common across political organizations but can be intensified by external influences. “In all political parties, you’re going to have the good, the bad, and the ugly. The people who are your scoundrels, who drift in and are willing tools,” he said.
Utomi added that such individuals can be leveraged when there is a coordinated effort to destabilize party structures. “If there is a determined effort from outside, if there isn’t a political culture of civility that recognises that this is the proper way to act in the public sphere, then it is easy to find those willing tools and use them to cause, if you will, irritations within the system,” he stated.
