Aregbesola, who currently serves as the National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress, had earlier spoken at the party’s national convention held in Abuja.
During the event, he expressed concerns about the progress of the Renewed Hope agenda, noting that several of the administration’s promises were yet to be fully realised despite the passage of time since the government assumed office.
His comments formed part of broader discussions at the gathering, where party members reviewed national issues and governance.
In response, Onanuga addressed the remarks in a post shared on the social media platform X.
He described Aregbesola’s statements as misleading and suggested that they did not present a balanced view of the current administration’s efforts.
According to him, criticisms of the Renewed Hope agenda should take into account ongoing policies and programmes, which he indicated are still being implemented across various sectors.
Onanuga also referenced Aregbesola’s previous roles in public office, including his time as governor of Osun State and later as Minister of Interior.
He alleged that Aregbesola’s tenure as governor was associated with economic challenges, including issues related to salary payments.
In addition, he pointed to security concerns during Aregbesola’s period as minister, mentioning incidents such as prison breaks and other lapses that were reported at the time.
These remarks were presented as part of his response to the criticisms raised by Aregbesola.
He said, “No, Rauf, the Renewed Hope Agenda is not a scam. The real scammers are the politicians gathered inside the SPV called ADC.”
