A senior manager at a start-up firm is staring at a bleak future after he allegedly sent random chocolate gifts and creepily complimented a female colleague.

How a junior employee made her boss get fired

The lady in question, a 23-year-old holding a junior position, claimed that her direct boss behaved inappropriately with her on multiple occasions, but she often let it slide every time.

In a random confession, Kylie (not her real name), recalled several instances when the man called her hot and even sent her chocolates with I love you texts.

“He called me hot and sent me chocolates with a love you message. Calling me hot was maybe okay because I can take it as a compliment or whatever, but a message saying love you? That was a little too much,” she shared on Reddit.

Things escalated really fast when he came across her younger sister’s LinkedIn profile. The 30-year-old man admitted that the younger sibling was prettier.

“I understood he was desperate, but I was done when he told me that he found my sister’s (25f) LinkedIn and said she’s so pretty and sexy. I was so done then. I was so mad, not because he said my sister is prettier than me, she indeed is prettier than me, but stalking my sister’s account and telling me that she’s sexy? That was just pathetic,” she narrated.

In her own words, Kylie maintained she never gave the man any sign that she was interested in him or that she wanted to be his friend.

“I mean, I could have honestly reported any of these and got him fired, maybe, but he was senior, and I didn’t want to ruin his life, so I told him two times that this was inappropriate.

I told my CEO directly, yes, you heard it right, as ours is a small company, I can go talk to the CEO anytime, and he’s very friendly as well. I told him about all that happened, and he fired my senior. I genuinely didn’t think he’d be fired,” she added with a fleeting feeling of regret.

Nairobi woman fired for calling male colleague ‘baby’

In a separate but similar story, a Nairobi woman who was dismissed for calling her male colleague ‘baby’ was awarded by the Employment and Labour Relations Court in May 2025.

Ms VA, who was until her dismissal in November 2022, worked at the civil society group Kituo Cha Sheria’s Legal Advice Centre.

The matter came up when the complainant, Mr SR, reported Ms VA for sexual harassment. He argued that the lady nicknamed him ‘baby boy’ and ‘lollipop’, names he maintained had sexual connotations.

In his ruling, Justice Byram Ongaya ruled that the allegations were either fabricated or welcomed by the complainant. The court observed that SR did not protest the nicknames for close to two years.

Ongaya awarded her KSh1.5 million.
