A family in Nakuru county has been thrown into mourning following the painful demise of their loved one, who died in a gruesome murder.

Mary Njoki Mburu was allegedly killed by her lover, identified as Paul Ndung’u, after he reportedly found her with another man in the house.

The mother of three was killed using a sharp object, which was recovered at the crime scene by police, concerned neighbours, and family members.

Her heartbroken sister, Mary Nyambura, spoke emotionally as she narrated what happened to her sibling.

“We got the news this morning. I received a call from another sister of mine who had gone to check on her farm. When she arrived, she found a crowd and asked me to come. She said something had happened, but did not tell me what it was. When I arrived, I found that my sister was dead. She had been killed by her boyfriend, who later surrendered himself to the police station. He came with a Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officer to confirm the incident. Paul claimed that he had been beaten by a man, but when they got here and found a dead body, he was arrested and taken to the station,” ,she said.

Nyambura added that for as long as they had known the couple, they had never heard of them quarrelling, noting that the family did not know Paul well.

Whenever the deceased was seen with the suspect, she introduced him as a friend, and therefore, the family knew little about him.

Sub-County Police Commander of Nakuru North speaks

Charity Karimi, the Sub-County Police Commander of Nakuru North, said Paul showed up at the station at 10:30am, claiming he had been assaulted the previous night.

“He said he was roughed up after visiting her, only to find another man in the house, whom we are still searching for and trying to identify. Police immediately went to the deceased’s house in Kabartini and found Njoki, 42, dead with injuries.

Their fight reportedly started around 9pm. In the morning, Njoki allegedly took a machete and attempted to kill her lover, but he evaded the attack, seized the machete, and killed her,” she said.

Karimi urged couples to seek peaceful and viable ways to resolve their differences instead of resorting to violence.
