Kiambu: Relief as well-wishers rent house for woman sleeping with baby in cold after uncle left her

• A young mother, Blessing Oside, spent four nights out in the cold with her baby after her uncle evicted her from his house in the same estate

Kahawa Wendani, Kenya: A woman who has been living on the streets with a baby who is only seven months old has finally found a house with modest furnishings, thanks to well-wishers.

Speaking to Derrick Mbugua, the woman narrated how she used to live in Kahawa Wendani, but when she became pregnant, she went back to her village home to give birth. She was promised a job in the city, and she returned and started putting up with her uncle, but that did not last for long.

Oside was sent away by her uncle, who wanted to marry his girlfriend. She could not get help from him, her baby daddy, either.

“I love the baby, but I don’t love her; the baby can stay with me, but she should go and look for a job,” she said.

“She is also tough-headed , so I cannot stay with her,” he added.

After learning about the stands of the uncle and the baby daddy, Mbugua raised the matter online and asked netizens to help the lady get a house and a job.

How did Oside get a house in Kahawa Wendani?

After learning Oside’s helplessness, Kenyans paid KSh 14,000 rent to cover her for three months and then bought her clothes, a bed, bedding and food. i

Thanks Kenyans abroad who have sent her support and those at home as well,” he said.

“Nyaga’s second-hand items and loans gave a gas cylinder and fridge so as to enable her to store food for the baby. A friend also gave clothes and beddings. We have paid for a house for the next 3 month’s, bed, utensils, a mattress, gas , sufurias, among other items za jikon,”he added.

What are Oside’s qualifications?

Apparently, Oside dropped out in the 2nd year of nursing school, but she is willing to take any job.

“Those men who are calling and want to make her a wife; please let her be for now. Conmen who have tried to wash her, God is seeing you,” said Mbuhua.

“Kenyans are welcome to help Oside in any way,” he added.

In a different story, a photo of a woman seen sleeping outside a supermarket sparked a lot of sympathy and concern among netizens.

Kenyans expressed great desire to help the needy woman and called for support while sharing their own experiences of how they endured hardships that were caused by the escalating cost of living.

The incident also highlighted all the challenges faced by many Kenyans and also included homelessness and the need to work long hours to make ends meet.
