At the start of the project, Eshuchi admits that he did not have any money; he was hoping to raise KSh 1 million to KSh 2 million before he could start, but his fundi insisted that he should start with what he had, which was KSh 400,000.
“We started the groundwork and did the grading for the columns and backfill, and by that time KSh 800,000 was gone. By the time they had mixed the slab, I was in debt,” confessed Eshuchi.
The second slab was going to cost Eshuchi an equivalent of a whole year’s rent at his previous apartment, and Eshuchi opted to embark on the basement and complete it to see if he could move in.
After about two months, he went back to the project and did a perimeter wall.

When Eshuchi got a crazy quotation for flooring, he got 6×1 typical frames and had them treated and then did some sanding.
“I embarked on the tiling of the kitchen and bathroom, then came back to the floor and the first coat of mahogany, sanding and back again,” he said.
