Irja narrates nursing journey
“A story of strength and inspiration. At the Northern Campus graduation ceremony today, we celebrate Ms Irja N. Iipinge, who has earned her Bachelor of Nursing Science (Clinical) Honours. Irja, who uses a wheelchair, has demonstrated resilience, courage, and steadfast determination. Her story reminds us that with the right support, belief, and perseverance, no barrier is too great. In this interview, she reflects on the people, including a handsome doctor, who inspired her path and shaped her success. Congratulations, Irja, your journey inspires us all,” a video caption read.
The viral video captured Irja’s graduation ceremony, focusing on her as she received her certificate despite the challenges she faced.
The nursing graduate was widely celebrated as she wheeled herself to the podium to collect her degree.
“My journey has been quite challenging, but with God, I made it through. As for my practicals, I wouldn’t say they were bad. Every day you learn something new, and that knowledge motivates you and builds your confidence. That’s why I would say my practicals went quite well,” she said.
Irja dedicates nursing degree to mum, friend
As she approached the podium in her graduation gown and cap, fellow graduates and lecturers stood up to give her a standing ovation.
They cheered and celebrated her achievement, recognising the obstacles she had overcome.
“I dedicate this qualification to three people, apart from God. First, my lovely mother, who never gave up on me even when my strength wavered, always stood by me. Second, to the most handsome doctor, Celestine, who supported me and encouraged me to return to school, even helping me through depression. And finally, to my best friend, Helena, who has been with me from the very beginning. I am so proud of myself and grateful for the people around me,” she added.

The video also captured the emotional moment when Irja’s mother approached her with a bouquet. She bent down, hugged her daughter, and presented the flowers as guests applauded the inspiring graduate.

Quadruplets graduate from same university
