(Late Dr. Ere Ogbachi)
After giving birth to triplets in Bayelsa State, a doctor named Dr. Ere Ogbachi passed away due to complications.
Meshack Sintei, the deceased’s brother, confirmed the death in a Facebook post on Wednesday. He said that after being taken to the Federal Medical Center’s Intensive Care Unit in Yenagoa, she passed away at around 2:45 a.m. on April 14, 2026.
The family statement claims that immediately after she gave birth safely, difficulties arose, necessitating an urgent transfer to intensive care.
According to the statement, “complications arose that ultimately forced us to rush her to the Intensive Care Unit in FMC Yenagoa. She successfully gave birth to triplets at the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital in Okolobiri.”
Describing the final moments, the family said medical personnel made efforts to save her life at the ICU, where her condition deteriorated rapidly. “We watched her struggling to live, we watched her gasping for breath, we watched how the team of doctors and other experts in FMC kept trying their best to revive her,” it stated.
The statement added that her oxygen saturation levels reportedly dropped sharply during the emergency response. “The SpO2 machine in the ICU began reading downwards from 70 to 50 and then to 0,” it said.
Sintei said the family was devastated by her passing, describing her as a dedicated medical professional and mother of triplets.
He said, “It was a painful experience… my beloved sister died at exactly 2:45 am on April 14th 2026. A generation has been lost, and the Sintei family mourns.”
He added that she “was a fighter to the end,” and expressed appreciation for the support received from friends and well-wishers. Until her death, Dr Ogbachi was a wife, mother of triplets, medical doctor, registrar at NDUTH, member of the Nigerian Medical Association, and an alumna of Niger Delta University.
At the time this report was filed, efforts were underway to get formal confirmation from hospital authorities.
