The Ondo State Police Command has arrested two suspected cult kingpins and recovered a locally made firearm following a targeted intelligence-led operation in Ondo State.
According to a press statement issued on Wednesday, the operation was carried out under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, as part of renewed efforts to curb cultism and violent crimes across the state through proactive policing and community collaboration.
Operatives of the Special Anti-Cultism Squad (SACS), Akure, acting on credible intelligence provided by the Ondo End Miscreant Group, arrested two suspects on April 11, 2026, in Ondo Town.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects are allegedly members of rival cult groups, the Eiye and Aiye confraternities, which have been linked to recurring violent clashes in parts of the state.
The suspects were reportedly involved in a cult-related confrontation that occurred on April 9, 2026, within the premises of the Adeyemi Federal University of Education in Ondo, where rival groups allegedly disrupted public peace.
The arrested individuals, identified as Nnamdi Sunday (male) and Adegbuyi Seyi (male), later assisted investigators to locate a suspected cult hideout at the Oka Garage area of Ondo Town. A search of the location led to the recovery of one locally made English pistol, believed to have been used for criminal activities.
The police confirmed that the suspects are currently in custody while investigations continue to track down other fleeing members of the gang and recover additional arms and ammunition.
The Commissioner of Police reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to eliminating cultism and other forms of violent crime in the state, stressing that all perpetrators will be brought to justice.
The Command also commended the Ondo End Miscreant Group for providing timely intelligence that contributed to the success of the operation, urging residents to continue supporting security agencies by reporting suspicious activities.
In his remarks, the Commissioner expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, for his leadership, guidance, and continuous support, which he said has strengthened operational efficiency within the Command.
The Police assured residents of Ondo State that efforts are ongoing to ensure the safety of lives and property across the state.
Members of the public are encouraged to report suspicious movements or activities through official police communication channels.
