Senator representing Borno South Senatorial District, Ali Ndume, has stated that Nigeria can overcome insurgency within six months if the federal government demonstrates sufficient commitment and adopts the right strategy.
Ndume made the assertion on Monday while featuring on Politics Today, a programme on Channels Television, where he spoke on the worsening security situation in the North-East region.
According to the lawmaker, the prolonged insurgency crisis is not insurmountable, stressing that decisive action and improved capacity-building for security forces could yield quick results.
“I always believe that if the president and the federal government of Nigeria are serious about this thing, we can end this in six months. All we need is to train our soldiers,” he said.
Ndume emphasised the need for enhanced training, better equipment, and a more coordinated approach in tackling insurgent groups operating in the region.
His comments come amid growing concerns over renewed attacks and insecurity in parts of the North-East, prompting calls from stakeholders for more effective measures to restore peace.
While some analysts agree that improved training and strategy could significantly weaken insurgent activities, others argue that the complexity of the conflict requires a broader approach, including intelligence gathering, community engagement, and socio-economic interventions.
The senator’s remarks have since generated reactions, with many Nigerians debating the feasibility of ending insurgency within such a short timeframe and urging the government to intensify efforts toward lasting security solutions.
