Abuja, Nigeria — President Bola Tinubu has approved the establishment of a new campus of the Nigeria Police Academy in Ogun State, alongside a ₦15 billion take-off grant to support the project’s commencement.
The new campus will be located in Erinja, Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State, marking a major expansion of the country’s premier police training institution and a significant federal investment in security education infrastructure.
The approval is expected to strengthen the capacity of the Nigeria Police Academy to train more officers, improve professional standards, and support broader security sector reforms.
According to reports, the ₦15 billion intervention fund is intended to cover critical early-stage development needs, including administrative buildings, lecture halls, accommodation facilities, training infrastructure, and other foundational requirements needed for the campus to begin operations.
The move is also seen as part of efforts to decentralize police training institutions and improve access for cadets from the southern region of the country, while easing pressure on existing facilities at the academy’s main campus in Wudil, Kano State.
For Ogun State, the project is expected to deliver economic benefits through construction activity, employment generation, infrastructure upgrades, and increased commercial activity in surrounding communities.
The decision further reinforces Ogun State’s growing profile as a destination for federal institutions and strategic public investments, given its location and proximity to Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial hub.
