The Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 7 Headquarters, Abuja, Victor Olaiya, has directed a full-scale investigation into officers of the zonal Cybercrime Section following allegations of extortion captured in a viral video.
The directive came after a social media video surfaced, showing personnel of the unit allegedly engaging in unprofessional conduct and extortion, prompting public concern and internal review.
In a statement issued by the Zone and signed by its spokesperson, ASP Mohammed Halima, the command confirmed that the AIG has ordered a thorough probe into the incident to identify and sanction any officer found culpable.
The statement noted that Zone 7, which oversees the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command and Niger State Police Command, maintains strict disciplinary standards under the leadership of the AIG.
It added that the zone remains committed to professionalism, accountability, and the enforcement of police reforms, stressing that misconduct will not be tolerated.
“The AIG has ordered a comprehensive and far-reaching investigation into the allegations with a view to identifying any personnel involved in such unwholesome conduct,” the statement said.
The command also stated that no formal complaint had been received before the viral video emerged, but assured that the matter would be thoroughly addressed.
Reaffirming its stance, the Zone warned that any officer found guilty would face decisive disciplinary action in line with extant laws and the Inspector-General of Police’s reform agenda.
Members of the public were further encouraged to report cases of police misconduct through official channels for prompt action.
