Prominent Ibadan elders have moved to dismiss reports suggesting a strained relationship between Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, and the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja.
The clarification was made on Friday by the Balogun of Ibadanland, Oba Tajudeen Ajibola, while addressing journalists at his residence, Aladewura House, Sanyo, in Ibadan South-West Local Government Area.
Ajibola said the intervention by elders was aimed at calming tensions and preventing the spread of misinformation.
“I want to allay the fears of our people in Ibadanland that there is no problem between Governor Seyi Makinde and His Imperial Majesty, Oba Rashidi Ladoja,” he said.
He added that traditional leaders in Ibadan had already stepped in to address the rumours, urging residents to disregard social media speculations.
“We don’t want any crisis in Ibadan again. Our elders have taken charge of the situation to ensure peace,” he added, referencing past periods of unrest in the city.
The rumours followed claims by former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, alleging a plot to dethrone the Olubadan—an allegation that has since been widely rejected.
In response, the Oyo State Government, through Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Prince Dotun Oyelade, denied any such plan, describing the claims as false and politically motivated.
According to him, the government “has never contemplated, discussed, or planned such an action,” adding that the allegation should be disregarded.
Similarly, media aide to Oba Ladoja, Adeola Oloko, dismissed the report, describing it as baseless and unfounded, insisting there is no rift between the governor and the monarch.
“There is no cause for friction between Governor Makinde and the Olubadan of Ibadanland,” he said.
Further developments are expected.
