Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has expressed strong support for his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, following his declaration of interest in the 2027 governorship race.
Sanwo-Olu disclosed that Hamzat formally informed him of his intention to contest for the state’s top job, describing the move as a natural progression of years of collaboration and service.
According to the governor, both men have worked closely for over two decades, a period during which he said Hamzat demonstrated competence, loyalty, and a deep commitment to the development of Lagos State.
He further noted that Hamzat’s experience in governance and understanding of socio-economic issues, shaped under the leadership of Bola Tinubu, positions him as a strong candidate for the role.
“Lagos is too important to be left for experimenting,” Sanwo-Olu stated, adding that he is confident his deputy would continue to build on existing progress and drive further growth in the state if elected.
The endorsement is expected to shape early political alignments ahead of the 2027 elections, as stakeholders within the state begin to position themselves for the highly anticipated race.
