The videos of red underwear being displayed during a rally in ... Kano State over the weekend quickly went viral online, with reports claiming it was part of an empowerment initiative backed by the Kano State government.
However, during a special prayer session at ... the Government House in Kano, Governor Yusuf distanced himself from the rally, stating that it was held without his knowledge or approval.
He also condemned the public display of underwear, which featured during the programme, noting that it goes against the cultural and religious values of the people of the state.
“You have heard what happened. We were going about our normal activities when I was informed that some young women displayed inappropriate items. I was not aware of it.”
“Such actions are against our culture and the teachings of Islam, and we strongly condemn them,” the Governor said.
Recall that in 2016, Shehu Sani, who at that time was the Senator representing Kaduna Central, distributed one hundred thousand transistor radio sets in seven local government areas under his senatorial district.
He said the gesture was to raise the political consciousness of the people and have more access to information on what is happening within and outside their localities.
“We come from the part of the country where the major and most important source of information is the radio.
“Radio is an empowerment, a form of education and enlightenment. It enables people to have access to information and also have an opportunity to express themselves,” he said…....…
