Kericho well-wisher offers to clear fees for teen who cleaned clubs to stay in school

Kericho – For years, Abigael Chepkorir from Chebole, in Kenya’s Rift Valley, had grown used to a life far removed from the classroom she longed to return to.

Each morning before sunrise, while her classmates prepared for lessons at Chepseon Girls, Grade 10 West, Abigael picked up a mop and bucket instead.

She moved from one club to another in Chebole town, scrubbing floors with detergent and cold water, not as a choice, but a necessity.

The 16-year-old was forced to seek work because her mother is unwell in the hospital, and whatever little the family had was spent on medical care.

School fees became an impossible burden.

Determined not to give up, Abigael knocked on doors and sought help by applying for the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) support, reaching out to local leaders, and pleading for a chance to continue her education.

However, each attempt ended the same way: rejection, silence, or promises that never materialised.

Things took a positive turn when her plight was made public by Koech Manasseh, drawing attention to the teenager’s resilience and determination.

What followed has since changed the course of her life as Senator Wakili Hillary Sigei stepped in and fully cleared Abigael’s school fees, lifting a burden that had threatened to end her education.

The intervention has not only secured her return to school but restored a dream that had been slipping away.

For Abigael, the shift is profound as she can now walk back into class with renewed dignity and hope.
