Romero ruled out for season in major blow to Tottenham

Cristian Romero will miss the remainder of the season after sustaining a serious knee injury during Tottenham Hotspur’s 1-0 defeat to Sunderland.

The 27-year-old defender was forced off in visible distress following a collision with goalkeeper Antonín Kinský during Sunday’s Premier League clash.

Medical assessments have since confirmed a high-grade partial tear of his medial cruciate ligament, ruling him out for up to eight weeks.

Romero’s absence comes at a critical stage of the campaign, with Spurs battling relegation. The North London side currently sit 18th, just two points behind safety.
