A young woman who had caused fear and concern after news of her disappearance went viral on social media has now shockingly confessed to faking the kidnapping.

The 26-year-old lady, Amie T. Dean, was reported missing by her sister, who sought help on social media, pleading with netizens for help to find her.

Many were concerned about the young woman’s whereabouts, with many sharing her missing person’s posts, hoping that she would be found safe and sound.

Days later, she resurfaced with a tale of how she suffered at the hands of her abductors. She claimed that on April 2, she was taken by unknown men and ferried to captivity using a black vehicle.

The Liberian woman’s disturbing claims made many shudder with fear, with the police taking the matter seriously and inviting her to the station for an official statement.

However, it was during the police interrogations that it emerged that her whole story did not add up, and upon further interrogation, she admitted to lying and faking the kidnapping.

Speaking in a Facebook video, the young woman sought forgiveness for faking the kidnapping, saying she was just at a friend’s place, in the days she was thought to be missing.

“I beg for forgiveness. I didn’t mean to lie,” she emotionally said.

Amie said she left home after being told about a certain job opportunity that she was interested in. She said she did not want to respond to her sister’s endless calls, and that’s why she thought she was missing.

She confessed to failing to correct her sister after surfacing, and instead fabricated a story to prove she had been missing.

The 26-year-old was charged with making a false statement and providing a false report to law enforcement, but the police later withdrew the charges and urged her to seek mental health help.

The LNP recommends that Ms. Dean undergo a comprehensive, professional mental health evaluation, to be conducted with full respect for her dignity, privacy, and rights. Relevant state and non-state actors will be engaged to ensure appropriate care pathways are available,” the Liberian police said in a statemement.

Woman reported missing by boyfriend found at husband’s home

In other news, a woman who was reported missing by her boyfriend was found in her husband’s home.

Mercy Awuor left her Nairobi boyfriend of one year in utter devastation after she disappeared in what he thought was an alleged kidnapping, as he was allegedly asked to pay a KSh 150,000 ransom.

She was found relaxing in Narok with her husband, who had paid a bride price of two cows and sired two kids with her.
