According to a statement signed by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, on Sunday, the arrests were made between April 14 and 18, 2026 during intelligence-led operations and stop-and-search duties conducted by divisional units and the Quick Response Squad.

In the first incident at Mowe, Babaseyi said the command acted on what they described as credible intelligence about a suspicious individual loitering around a bus stop.

“On 14th April 2026, at about 1630hrs, operatives of Mowe Division acted on credible intelligence received from a member of the public regarding a suspicious individual loitering around Mowe Bus Stop,” the statement said.

The suspect, identified as 36-year-old Opeyemi Anuoluwapo, was arrested, and a search reportedly led to the recovery of a locally made single-barrelled pistol, an expended cartridge, and charms.

Babaseyi said the suspect confessed during interrogation.

“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to being a member of the Eiye Confraternity,” the vommand disclosed.

In a separate operation on April 17, 2026, officers of the Quick Response Squad intercepted a motorcycle along Lafarge axis on the Sagamu–Ogijo Road.

“Operatives of the Quick Response Squad, while on stop-and-search duty at Lafarge along Sagamu/Ogijo Road, intercepted a Bajaj motorcycle ridden by Asaye Ajibola, 30,” the statement noted.

A search reportedly led to the recovery of a locally made single-barrel gun loaded with nine cartridges.

It was stated that the suspect was arrested after failing to give a satisfactory explanation for possession of the weapon.

A third arrest was made on April 18, 2026 along the same axis when another motorcycle was intercepted.

“Another QRS team intercepted a Honda motorcycle at the same Lafarge axis along Sagamu/Ogijo Road. The rider, Adedeji Olufemi, 49, was found in possession of a locally made double-barrel gun with eight cartridges,” the Command said.

The command said the suspect was arrested on the spot after he could not account for the firearm.

Babaseyi confirmed that all suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and possible prosecution.

The state Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the operatives for what he described as their professionalism and proactive policing.

“The command will continue to intensify intelligence-driven operations against unlawful possession of firearms, cultism, and other violent crimes,” he said.
