Former Senate President and National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), David Mark, has called for urgent unity among opposition parties, warning that Nigeria is facing a critical moment in its democratic journey.
Mark made the remarks at the National Opposition Summit held in Ibadan, Oyo State, where political leaders gathered to deliberate on the country’s challenges and the path forward ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Addressing stakeholders, the former Senate President said Nigeria is currently grappling with worsening insecurity, economic hardship, and what he described as weakening democratic institutions. According to him, the situation requires collective action rather than political division.
“When Nigeria called, we answered,” Mark declared, emphasizing that the summit was a response to growing national concerns.
He described the task before opposition parties as a “national rescue mission,” stressing that it goes beyond routine political competition. “No single party can do it alone. We must rise above personal ambition and stand together for the future of Nigeria,” he said.
Mark reiterated the commitment of the ADC to safeguarding democracy, restoring public confidence, and aligning with the aspirations of Nigerians.
The summit forms part of ongoing efforts by opposition leaders to build consensus and strengthen collaboration as political activities begin to gather momentum ahead of the next electoral cycle.
