Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, a presidential aspirant on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has called for a united opposition front ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Hayatu-Deen spoke on Saturday on the sidelines of the national opposition summit held in Ibadan.
He said Nigeria’s challenges require a coordinated response beyond the capacity of any single party or individual.
His words: “Nigeria is at a defining moment. The deepening insecurity, the crushing cost of living and the steady erosion of democratic space demand a collective response. This is not about personal ambition, it is about national rescue.”
Hayatu-Deen said unity among opposition parties is no longer optional but necessary to present Nigerians with a credible alternative.
He warned that continued fragmentation within the opposition would entrench the status quo and worsen hardship.
He urged political leaders to move beyond rhetoric and demonstrate commitment to collaboration and shared purpose.
At the summit, Hayatu-Deen held consultations with Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo state, Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rotimi Amaechi.
He also engaged with the conveners of the summit, Jerry Gana of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Kashim Imam.
Hayatu-Deen said the 2027 elections present an opportunity to reset Nigeria’s trajectory if opposition leaders prioritise national interest over personal ambition.
“Nigerians are looking for leadership that is empathetic, unifying and capable of delivering real change. That responsibility rests on all of us in the opposition to come together and rise to the occasion,” he said.
He reaffirmed his commitment to the ADC and pledged to work with stakeholders to build a coalition focused on security, economic stability and restoring public trust in democratic institutions.
