Nigeria will deploy 200 Special Forces personnel to Türkiye for advanced military training under a new defence cooperation arrangement between both countries, Defence Minister Mohammed Badaru Abubakar has announced.
The minister disclosed the development after bilateral engagements with Turkish defence officials during the Antalya Diplomacy Forum in Türkiye.
According to him, the training programme is designed to strengthen the operational capacity of Nigeria’s elite military units through specialised instruction in modern warfare tactics, counterterrorism operations, and strategic combat readiness.
He said the personnel are expected to depart for Türkiye in phases, with preparations already underway.
The initiative forms part of broader military cooperation between Nigeria and Türkiye, which has expanded in recent years through defence procurement, technical support, and security partnerships.
Officials said the programme is expected to improve the professionalism and effectiveness of Nigerian Special Forces as the country continues operations against insurgency, banditry, kidnapping, and other security threats.
Further details on the training schedule, participating service branches, and duration of the programme were not immediately disclosed.
