As political permutations ahead of the 2027 general elections begin to take shape in Delta State, fresh analysis has spotlighted the growing electoral influence of Oshimili North and Oshimili South Local Government Areas in determining outcomes in the Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency.

A political analyst, Philip Okwuche, in a detailed review of voter data and recent election trends, argued that the combined voting strength of the two Oshimili councils could once again play a decisive role in who emerges victorious in the House of Representatives race, as well as influence broader contests within the Delta North Senatorial District.

According to the analysis, Oshimili North and Oshimili South collectively command a numerical advantage over their Aniocha counterparts in terms of registered voters. The figures, referenced from the 2023 Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) statistics, indicate that the two Oshimili LGAs account for roughly 60 percent of registered voters in the constituency, while Aniocha North and Aniocha South make up about 40 percent.

Okwuche noted that this numerical edge is not just theoretical but has already been reflected in past electoral outcomes. Citing the 2023 general elections, the analyst pointed out that a candidate from Oshimili secured approximately 55 percent of the total votes, surpassing the combined tally of candidates from the Aniocha axis, who garnered about 45 percent.

“The Oshimili bloc has consistently shown that it is the dominant variable in electoral outcomes within the constituency. The numbers are clear, and they have been tested,” Okwuche stated.

The analysis further suggested that, all things being equal, a unified voting pattern from Oshimili North and South could decisively tilt the balance in any contest, particularly if voter mobilisation remains high.

Beyond the numbers, Philip Okwuche raised concerns over what he described as growing sentiments of marginalisation among Oshimili voters, warning that such perceptions could shape political behaviour in the lead-up to 2027.

“Where the cry for equity by Oshimili voters is ignored, and their preferred candidates are denied party tickets, there is a strong possibility of protest voting. That could significantly alter expected outcomes,” he said.

The analyst cautioned political parties against underestimating these dynamics, stressing that internal party decisions especially during primaries, could trigger wider electoral consequences if not handled with sensitivity to local power balance and equity considerations.

According to him, parties seeking victory in the Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency must pay close attention to what he described as “established electoral realities,” including voter distribution and historical voting patterns.

“Any political party that overlooks the demand for fairness and balance does so at its own risk. The Oshimili voting bloc has both the numbers and the capacity to influence outcomes if mobilised,” he added.
