US President Donald Trump rushed out from White House correspondents dinner by secret service agents after a gunmen fired shots at the venue
The incident occurred at the Washington Hilton, where multiple senior government officials were, including Vice President JD Vance and members of the president’s Cabinet. All were quickly removed from the venue as a precaution.
According to sources cited by CNN, President Trump and Vice President Vance are safe, and no injuries among senior officials have been reported.
Witnesses described a chaotic scene, with Secret Service agents shouting “shots fired” and drawing their weapons after loud bangs were heard. Attendees were seen taking cover under tables as security personnel moved to secure the area.
The Secret Service later confirmed that one individual has been taken into custody.
In a post on X, authorities stated the situation had been contained. President Trump also addressed the incident on Truth Social, saying a suspected shooter had been apprehended and praising law enforcement for their swift response.
He added that he is returning to the White House and is expected to deliver a press briefing shortly.
Veteran journalist Wolf Blitzer, who was present at the event, reported live that he was only a few feet away from the suspected gunman when the incident unfolded, describing the weapon as “very serious” and the situation as highly dangerous.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
