Former governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has revealed what Nigerians should expect if the African Democratic Congress (ADC) wins power at the federal level in 2027.

Tambuwal spoke shortly after the party’s state congress. He laid out a broad plan focused on security, the economy, and key development sectors.

He said the party’s agenda is built around fixing the country’s most pressing problems.

He placed security at the top of the list. According to him, no nation can develop under constant threat. He stressed that an ADC-led government would take a decisive approach. This would include modern technology, better intelligence, and stronger community involvement.

He said, “The priorities are quite clear. First and foremost is security. Without security, no meaningful development can take place. An ADC-led government would address insecurity decisively, using a combination of strategic, technological, and community-based approaches.”

Tambuwal also spoke on the economy. He admitted that many Nigerians are facing hardship. He said the party would focus on reducing the burden on citizens. He added that job creation would be a major priority, especially for young people.

He said efforts would be made to support small businesses. He noted that small and medium enterprises remain the backbone of the economy. He also mentioned diversification as a key strategy to reduce over-reliance on limited sectors.

“Beyond security, we would focus on the economy—particularly on reducing hardship and creating opportunities. Unemployment remains a major challenge, especially among young people. We would implement policies aimed at job creation, support for small and medium enterprises, and economic diversification,” he said.

On development, Tambuwal pointed to education and agriculture. He described education as the foundation of national growth. He said reforms and steady investment would be required to improve the system.

He also described agriculture as a sector with huge potential. He said proper investment in farming could boost food supply and create millions of jobs across the country.

“Education and agriculture would also be central to our agenda. Education is the foundation of long-term development, and it requires sustained investment and reform. Agriculture, on the other hand, has the potential to provide both food security and employment if properly managed,” he stated.

Tambuwal did not leave out power supply. He said electricity remains a major challenge for businesses. He stressed that stable power is necessary for industries to grow and for the economy to improve.

“Power supply is another critical area. Reliable electricity is essential for industrial growth and overall economic productivity,” he said.

He added that the overall goal of the party is to build a government that listens to the people. He said accountability and responsiveness would define an ADC administration.

“In essence, the goal is to create a government that is responsive, accountable, and focused on improving the daily lives of Nigerians,” he added.

Tambuwal also addressed concerns about internal rivalry within the party. There have been questions about how the ADC will manage the selection of its presidential candidate ahead of 2027.

He said such concerns are normal in any serious political party. He noted that competition is part of democracy. However, he stressed that the party has systems in place to manage it.

“Those concerns are understandable, but they are also part of the democratic process. In any serious political party, especially one that is growing rapidly and attracting diverse interests, there will naturally be competition for leadership positions,” he said.

He explained that the party would first seek consensus among stakeholders. Where that fails, he said primary elections would be conducted in line with democratic standards.

“The key is how that competition is managed. Within the ADC, we are committed to democratic principles. If there is consensus among stakeholders on a particular candidate, then that is a legitimate and acceptable outcome. However, if consensus cannot be achieved, we have a well-established mechanism in the form of party primaries,” Tambuwal added.

He expressed confidence that internal competition would not divide the party. Instead, he said it would strengthen it if handled properly, with fairness and transparency.
