A shooting incident near the iconic STRAT Hotel, Casino and Tower triggered a heavy police response on Saturday afternoon. According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD), officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 1800 block of South Main Street.
The incident has left one person injured and has prompted authorities to deploy SWAT teams and crisis negotiators in the area ahead of the high-profile WrestleMania 42 weekend.
The individual struck by gunfire was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. According to Fox Vegas, the individual shot is an Atomic Golf employee.
There is no ongoing threat to the community at the time the LVMPD has informed via X. However, the authorities have asked people to avoid the area due to a large police presence.
Suspect barricade triggers major police response
Officials confirmed that after the shooting, the suspect fled and locked themselves inside a hotel room close to the Las Vegas Strip, escalating the situation into a standoff. Specialized units, including SWAT and negotiation teams, were deployed to safely resolve the incident.
LVMPD said, “The suspect then barricaded in a nearby hotel property. LVMPD SWAT and Crisis Negotiators were requested and responded.”
Whether the suspected gunman is in custody is still unknown.
Incident unfolds amid WrestleMania weekend buzz
The shooting comes at a time when Las Vegas is experiencing a surge in visitors due to WrestleMania 42, one of the biggest events in professional wrestling, drawing thousands of fans to the city.
The shootingincident unfolded as WWE fans flocked to the region for WrestleMania 42, which is taking place at Allegiant Stadium, which is only 11 minutes away from STRAT.
Eyewitness footage shared by journalist Doug Roberts on X showed a significant police presence, with streets partially blocked and emergency vehicles surrounding the area.
Press conference to be scheduled
This was not an active shooter, according to a statement released by the LVMPD. The police have assured the community that this was an isolates incident and that there was “no known ongoing threat to the community.”
A news conference will take place at South Casino Center Boulevard and East Oakey Boulevard, according to the emailRoberts shared. According to the email, a follow-up email will provide the conference time.
