A popular Nigerian juju musician, Yekini Ajao, with Prof. Y. K. Ajao as stage name, is dead.
The death of Ajao was confirmed by Sir Shina Peters and the Ajegunle Juju Musicians’ Association of Nigeria (AJUMN), Lagos State chapter.
Shina Peters announced this in a statement posted on his Instagram page on Friday night.
He wrote: Still hard to believe.
“You weren’t just a friend, you were my brother.
“Prof. Y.K. Ajao, your sound, your spirit, your presence; unforgettable.
“Thank you for everything.
“I’ll carry the memories always.
“Rest well, my brother.
“Your legacy lives on, your music lives on, and you will never be forgotten.”
The AJUMN also announced Ajax’s death in a statement.
The body described his passing as a great loss to the juju music community and the whole society.
