A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Gbenga Makanjuola, has formally declared his intention to contest for the Kwara South Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.
In a statement on Wednesday addressed to stakeholders, elders, and the people of Kwara South, Makanjuola said his decision was driven by a sense of responsibility and commitment to the development of the district.
He noted that his aspiration was not based on personal ambition but on a desire to respond to the yearnings of the people.
“I come before you with a deep sense of responsibility, humility, and unwavering commitment to the progress of our people to formally declare my intention to contest for the office of Senator representing Kwara South Senatorial District in the forthcoming 2027 General Elections,” he said.
“This decision is not borne out of personal ambition, but from a long-standing dedication to the unity, development, and collective advancement of Kwara South,” he added.
Makanjuola was the PDP deputy governorship candidate in the 2019 and 2023 elections.
He said his extensive engagement with communities across Kwara South had given him a deep understanding of the needs and aspirations of the people.
He highlighted his experience as a two-term member of the House of Representatives and his years of working with the leadership of the Senate as key qualifications for the role.
“My service as a two-term Member of the House of Representatives, coupled with an additional eight years interfacing with the leadership of the Senate, provided me with a practical platform to contribute meaningfully to national legislative development and constituency growth,” he said.
According to him, his time in the National Assembly enabled him to sponsor and support key legislative initiatives, facilitate constituency projects, expand access to infrastructure, promote education through scholarships, and empower youths and women.
He also cited his role as Deputy Chief of Staff to the President of the Senate as a critical experience that exposed him to high-level governance and strategic engagement.
“These experiences have strengthened my capacity to deliver effective representation and attract meaningful development to our district,” he said.
Makanjuola stressed that legislative service must go beyond lawmaking to include effective representation, accessibility, and accountability.
He outlined his priorities to include infrastructure development, economic expansion, education, agricultural support, improved security, and inclusive governance.
“It must embody strategic advocacy, transparency, and continuous engagement with constituents.
“I am committed to building a Kwara South where every community matters, every voice is heard, and every citizen has the opportunity to thrive,” he said.
Describing himself as a “Hope Ambassador,” Makanjuola pledged to bridge the gap between public expectations and tangible development outcomes.
