Polygamy in the Luo community is very rampant, especially with men from the older generation who married different women for various reasons.

In the video shared by Otieno, Onyango, 65, shared how he runs his household of eight wives and 28 children.

“Once you have married four wives, you are like a magnet to women. Once you are somewhere and just smile at a woman, she will want to follow you so you can marry her because they think you can sustain them. I loved my uncle, and he had so many wives. I used to love how they lived more than those who had one wife. So polygamy interested me when I was still young,” he said.
One of his wives said that there is a lot of jealousy, especially when he would bring a new woman, as she would question what was not enough with her.
“Sometimes they would go for a year without speaking to each other. They are both here. Not even hello in the morning. It makes me happy when they start talking to each other,” he said.
Onyango, however, did not confirm that he was done adding wives, as his eighth wife is still new to his compound.
