AFC Bournemouth have confirmed that German coach Marco Rose will become their new head coach on a three-year deal, taking charge ahead of next season after the departure of current manager Andoni Iraola.
The club announced that Iraola, 43, will leave the Vitality Stadium at the end of the current campaign after deciding not to extend his contract.
Bournemouth said their immediate focus remains on finishing the season strongly, with the team currently enjoying a 13-game unbeaten run and pushing for European qualification.
Rose, 49, had been one of three main candidates considered by the club, alongside Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna and Rayo Vallecano’s Inigo Pérez.
The German coach has been out of work since being dismissed by RB Leipzig in March 2025.
Bournemouth believe Rose’s experience at top European clubs made him the standout choice.
His managerial career includes spells at Borussia Dortmund, Borussia Mönchengladbach, RB Leipzig, and Red Bull Salzburg, where he won domestic league and cup honours.
He also lifted the DFB-Pokal and DFL-Supercup with Leipzig and previously guided Salzburg to multiple Austrian Bundesliga titles.
The club highlighted his record of developing elite talent, including Erling Haaland and Jude Bellingham at Dortmund, as well as Dominik Szoboszlai at Leipzig, as a key factor in their decision.

Bournemouth, who are currently eighth in the Premier League and level on points with sixth-placed Chelsea on goal difference, are preparing for what could be their fifth consecutive top-flight season and potentially their first European campaign.
Despite significant squad turnover in recent seasons, including high-profile departures for major transfer fees, the club has maintained strong performances and remains optimistic about continued progress under new leadership.
Rose’s appointment is seen internally as a low-risk move, given he is a free agent, with Bournemouth avoiding compensation costs while securing an experienced European manager ahead of a crucial period in the club’s development.
