The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has credited the Lagos State Security Trust Fund for playing a major role in his policing successes during his tenure as Commander of the Lagos Rapid Response Squad.
A statement issued on Sunday by the agency’s media team indicated that Disu made the remarks on Saturday during a courtesy visit to the headquarters of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund in Alausa, Ikeja, where he was received by the Executive Secretary/CEO, Ayo Ogunsan.
The visit highlighted the longstanding partnership between law enforcement agencies and the LSSTF in strengthening security operations across Lagos.
Speaking during the visit, Disu described the occasion as deeply significant, recalling the support he received from the Trust Fund while serving as RRS Commander.
“I am happy to be here because LSSTF made policing easier for us. As RRS Commander, I had over 2,000 officers, operational vehicles, armoured personnel carriers, and helicopters to manage, yet I rarely worried about logistics because LSSTF consistently provided support,” he said.
According to the police chief, the trust fund ensured the timely provision of vehicle repairs, tyres, batteries, and operational equipment, enabling officers to focus more on policing duties.
He noted that the efficiency often associated with the RRS and Lagos policing framework was largely driven by LSSTF’s intervention.
“If people speak about the success of RRS or policing in Lagos, I can confidently say that a significant part of that achievement came from LSSTF’s support,” Disu stated.
He further appealed for continued collaboration, particularly in strengthening the operational capacity of the Lagos State Police Command through the provision of more vehicles and the reactivation of aerial surveillance assets.
“We know the strategic importance of Lagos and the pressure on security personnel due to the influx of people into the state. Continued support will help improve policing outcomes,” he added.
In his remarks, Ogunsan praised the IGP’s leadership style, describing it as people-focused and impactful.
“You have demonstrated a unique style of policing that balances professionalism with public trust. Lagos appreciates your service,” Ogunsan said.
He also highlighted funding challenges confronting the Trust Fund, noting that donor fatigue had begun to affect contributions.
“We need stronger support to sustain LSSTF operations, especially as similar security trust funds emerge across the country,” he said, urging the IGP to advocate for increased support from stakeholders.
Board members of LSSTF and private sector representatives present at the meeting reaffirmed their commitment to supporting security initiatives in Lagos.
As part of the visit, LSSTF donated a new operational vehicle to the Nigeria Police Force’s Violent Crime Response Unit, Lagos State Command, reinforcing its commitment to strengthening law enforcement capacity.
The donation positions Lagos among the first states to support the newly established policing unit.
The event also featured an exchange of souvenirs between LSSTF leadership and the IGP, symbolising continued partnership in advancing security across the state.
