A video of a young man calling out his siblings during a funeral ceremony in Shinyalu, Kakamega County, has sparked mixed reactions.

The visibly devastated man narrated how he had taken care of his late mother single-handedly, without any help from his siblings.

He mentioned the hospital visits and financial support he provided, while his other siblings did nothing.

“You did not even give her KSh 50 to help her get to the hospital. How did you expect her to get help? If you want us to get along and work together, you younger siblings have to follow our lead and do as we say,” he said.

Why did Kakamega man lecture siblings at mum’s burial?

He criticised his siblings for confidently speaking at the funeral, knowing very well that all they did was wash their late mother when she was ill.

He said he had also been the one caring for their father, including bathing him, despite the fact that he had many children.

“Let us be honest with each other, I am the one who has catered for everything, from her mortuary bills to the funeral. It has just been my sister and I,” he said.

The young man addressed his step-siblings with a lot of pain and anguish in his voice, leaving many social media users comparing the incident to their own family dynamics.

Others criticised his straightforwardness, saying he could have waited until after his mother’s burial to privately address his concerns.
