Atiku Abubakar, former vice-president has said the 2027 general election will be his final attempt at becoming Nigeria’s president.
Abubakar made the disclosure on Wednesday during an interview on Arise TV.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain will be 80 years old by the time the next presidential election is held in 2027.
He has contested for the presidency multiple times, appearing on the ballot as a presidential candidate in 2007, 2019, and 2023.
Speaking on youth participation in politics, Abubakar said younger Nigerians aspiring to leadership positions should first gain experience and learn from older politicians.
“I personally believe that they require experience and tutelage from the older generation,” he said.
Abubakar, who was the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2023, defected to the ADC in 2025.
His latest position marks a shift from his earlier stance in 2024, when he said he would continue contesting for the presidency as long as he remained alive and in good health.
