Senator (Prof.) Iyabo Obasanjo has officially announced the suspension of her consultations and aspirations toward the 2027 Ogun State governorship race following the emergence of a consensus candidate within the All Progressives Congress (APC).
At the Ogun APC Caucus meeting held on April 13, 2026, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (popularly known as Yayi) was endorsed as the party’s consensus candidate for the 2027 gubernatorial election.
In her statement, Obasanjo congratulated Adeola on his emergence and wished him success, while also expressing appreciation to both state and national party leaders for the opportunity to participate in the process.
She extended heartfelt gratitude to her supporters across Ogun State, commending their calmness, loyalty, and unwavering trust throughout her political journey.
“Based on these developments, I have decided to suspend my gubernatorial aspiration… Together, we move forward with patience, strength and hope,” she stated.
The development signals a consolidation of party structure ahead of the 2027 elections, with APC leadership in Ogun moving to present a united front early in the race.
