Former Kano State Governor, Ibrahim Shekarau, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), signaling a fresh political realignment ahead of future elections.
Shekarau announced his resignation on April 19, 2026, at his residence in Kano, following extensive consultations with his political associates and supporters. In a formal letter addressed to his ward chairman, he stated that his exit from the PDP takes immediate effect.
He explained that the decision was reached after “wide and extensive deliberations” within his political group, with plans to pursue his political ambitions under a different platform.
