Three people have lost their lives in a fatal auto crash at the Polo Roundabout in Jos, Plateau State.
The Federal Road Safety Corps Public Education Officer in the state, Peter Longsan, confirmed this to newsmen on Monday.
Longsan stated that the crash occurred at about 2:30 a.m. on Monday
“The truck reportedly lost control, resulting in a fatal crash that claimed the lives of the driver and two other persons,” the command said.
Longsan attributed the accident to loss of control and warned drivers against reckless driving, “especially at odd hours when visibility may be poor and fatigue can impair judgment.”
He urged motorists “to always ensure their vehicles are in good condition before embarking on any journey, while also advising strict adherence to speed limits and traffic regulations.”
The FRSC official further cautioned road users “to avoid overloading and dangerous driving, stressing that compliance with safety measures remains key to reducing road crashes and saving lives.”
Eyewitnesses who were at the scene described the crash as sudden and devastating.
“I was coming back from a night shift when I heard a loud bang. The truck was coming down at speed and just swerved before hitting the roundabout. By the time we got there, three people were not moving. It was terrible,” said Musa Ibrahim, a security guard who works near the Polo Roundabout.
Another eyewitness, Grace Pam, a shop owner in the area, said responders arrived minutes after the crash.
“It happened very fast. One moment, the road was quiet, the next moment, there was dust and screaming. People tried to help but it was already too late for the three of them,” she said. “Drivers need to slow down, especially at night. This roundabout has seen too many accidents.”
The FRSC said investigations into the crash are ongoing and reiterated its call for motorists to prioritise safety to prevent further loss of lives.
On Saturday, the FRSC, Kano Sector Command, confirmed the death of four persons and 53 others injured in separate road crashes in Kano.
The Public Relations Officer of the Sector Command, Abdullahi Labaran, said the first incident occurred on Friday, April 17, 2026, around 10:20pm along the Eastern Bypass, at General Muhammadu Buhari Interchange, Hotoro, Kano.
