The National Publicity Secretary of the Action Democratic Congress (ADC), Bolaji Abdullahi, has said the party’s opposition coalition will continue to expand, with more political heavyweights expected to join following the inclusion of Rabiu Kwankwaso.

Abdullahi made this known during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Monday.

“The coalition is getting bigger. We envisaged from the beginning that it would grow,” he said.

“Kwankwaso was not with us initially, but he is with us now. We expect that in the coming days, more people—more bigwigs—will come in,” he added.

Several prominent political figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former governors Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, Aminu Tambuwal, and Nasir El-Rufai, among others, have aligned with the ADC under the emerging opposition coalition.

The opposition leaders are seeking to unite under a single platform to improve their chances of unseating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections, with former Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso being the latest to join the movement.

Abdullahi, during the programme, blamed the ruling party for the crises affecting opposition parties.

He, however, noted that internal challenges within the opposition, as well as the recent decision by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to derecognise the David Mark-led leadership of the party, have inadvertently strengthened the coalition.

“Now we are here in the coalition, and this is a defining moment in the effort to bring people together to pursue a common objective and agenda,” he said.

“The decision by INEC on April 1 to derecognise the party’s leadership created adversity for us, but adversity has a way of bringing people together—more than we could have done on our own.

“That action brought all the leaders closer and made them realise that what is at stake is bigger than individual ambition,” he added.

The ADC spokesperson expressed confidence that the party and its leadership are on the right path.

He also reiterated that the only way to achieve meaningful political change in the country is for all opposition forces to unite under one platform.
