The incident, which reportedly involved a man identified as Chinedu Anamelechi, led to the death of his wife and two other individuals, leaving the community in shock and mourning. The Ministry described the act as heartbreaking and unacceptable, emphasizing the urgent need to uphold peace and human dignity across the state.
In its response, the Ministry extended sincere condolences to the bereaved families and residents of Olokoro, acknowledging the emotional and psychological impact of the incident on the entire community. It assured the public that the government is working closely with relevant security and legal authorities to ensure justice is served.
As part of its social protection mandate, the Ministry also announced plans to collaborate with appropriate agencies to identify and support victims’ families and others affected. This includes providing immediate relief, counseling, and necessary interventions to help them cope during this difficult period.
The statement further reaffirmed the commitment of the Abia State Government, under the leadership of Governor Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, to safeguarding lives, promoting peace, and protecting vulnerable citizens across the state.
Residents, community leaders, religious bodies, and civil society organizations were urged to promote unity, tolerance, and peaceful conflict resolution. The government stressed that violence should never be considered a solution under any circumstance.
The Commissioner for Poverty Alleviation and Social Protection, Mrs. Ngozi Blessing Felix, signed the statement, reiterating the government’s solidarity with the people of Olokoro during this painful time.
