Woman permanently relocates to Kenya after 10 years living in US, shares reason

A woman who has lived in several countries, including the United States, has explained why she relocated to Nairobi, Kenya.

Nnene Janice Essien has lived in Mexico, Nigeria, and the US, but she says she has never felt as at home as she does in Kenya, where she has lived for the past year.

Janice noted that it was not her first time in Kenya before making it her permanent home, adding that she had been visiting the country for years.

Does Janice feels healthier living in Kenya?

She opened up about her experience living in Kenya, compared to visiting the East African nation over the past 15 years.

“So, living here is extremely peaceful because I really enjoy nature. I take a lot of nature walks and I’m constantly observing different trees and flowers that I’ve never seen before. It really brings me peace. My first impression of living here is that it is peaceful. I absolutely love the fact that you can get so many different types of fruits and vegetables at a very reasonable cost. I definitely feel healthier living here,” she said.

The mother of two noted that she rents the house her sister and brother-in-law had lived in for the past 15 years.

She was given the option of not paying rent, but she insisted on contributing financially, even against their wishes.

Why did Janice leave US for Kenya?

The Human Resource (HR) consultant reflected on her life in the US and explained why she did not enjoy it.

“I used to run constantly. I would be running to get to work, running during work, rushing through work, running to leave work, and running to pick my son up on time. Now I have a much slower life, and I’ve had to be very mindful about maintaining that lifestyle. I keep telling myself to just relax, everything will get done, everything will be covered, and there’s no need to rush through life.

One thing I will say about life here in Nairobi is that this city does not sleep. There’s always something fun to do, whether it’s nature walks or events. The city is full of activities,” the fashion designer shared.

The life coach added that she now lives on just 20% of what she used to spend in the US, even with her son attending a posh school.

Why did Ola leave US for Kenya?

In a similar story, an American woman shared why she abandoned her successful business in the US to move to Kenya.

Ola, a fashion designer, said one of the reasons she left the American dream was due to the food in the country.

She recounted how she almost lost her life because of processed food, which ultimately pushed her to relocate to Kenya.
