The Abia State Police Command has launched an extensive manhunt for a local vigilante member who allegedly shot dead his girlfriend, stabbed her sister, and shot another man in Amakama, Ubakala, Umuahia South Local Government Area of the state.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Maureen Chinaka, confirmed the tragic incident in a statement on Thursday.
She said the command received a distress call regarding a fatal assault carried out by a suspect identified as Chinedu Anamelechi.
Anamelechi reportedly shot his girlfriend, identified as Ezinne Ariwodo, to death before turning his weapons on her sister and another young man from the area.
“Upon receipt of the report, operatives of the Command swiftly raced to the scene, where they found the lifeless body of the deceased in a pool of blood with gunshot injuries,” she said.
She disclosed that the injured victims were rescued and rushed to the hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment.
The deceased, she said, was confirmed dead by medical personnel and has been deposited in the morgue for preservation and autopsy.
Exhibits recovered from the scene were taken in for analysis.
Chinaka said normalcy had since been restored in the area and urged members of the community not to take the law into their hands.
“Investigation is ongoing as efforts are being made to apprehend the suspect,” she said.
