The Forum of Ikwerre Government Recognized Traditional Rulers on Friday condemned the recent attack on Ipo community in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State, describing the incident as barbaric, unacceptable, and a serious threat to peace and security in the area.

He lamented that such acts of violence and crime are alien to the values and traditions of the Ikwerre people, who according to him are known for their peaceful disposition and communal harmony.

According to the royal father, the forum views the incident as a direct affront to constituted authority at the community level, especially targeting a key figure responsible for local security coordination.

He stressed that no community can thrive under an atmosphere of fear and insecurity, emphasizing the need for immediate and decisive action to address the situation.

The traditional ruler further decried the trauma inflicted on residents, particularly families affected by the attack, and called for urgent measures to restore confidence and stability in the area.

The forum, therefore, called on relevant security agencies to urgently wade into the situation, secure the immediate release of the abducted vigilante chairman, and bring the perpetrators of the attack to justice.

He urged security operatives to intensify surveillance, deploy adequate personnel, and sustain operations within Ipo community to prevent any further breakdown of law and order.

He also appealed to residents to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding, while cooperating with security agencies by providing credible information that could aid ongoing investigations.

The chairman reassured the people of Ikwerre land of the unwavering commitment of the traditional institution to the protection of lives, property, and the preservation of peace across all communities.

The statement also called for unity among stakeholders, urging all concerned to support efforts aimed at restoring lasting peace and preventing a recurrence of such unfortunate incidents in IPO community and beyond.
