Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has strongly criticised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the country’s security challenges, calling for a change in leadership ahead of future elections.
In a statement that has sparked widespread reactions, Sowore blamed the current administration for failing to adequately protect citizens from terrorism and insecurity. He urged Nigerians to vote for a new direction, suggesting that a change in government could significantly improve the nation’s security situation.
Sowore also alleged that deeper systemic issues within government institutions contribute to insecurity, pointing to past leadership within the Ministry of Justice, including former Attorney-General Abubakar Malami, as part of the problem.
The activist further criticised the role of law enforcement, arguing that the police should focus more on tackling serious security threats rather than what he described as minor offences.
In his remarks, Sowore also took aim at top government officials, including Vice President Kashim Shettima and Senate President Godswill Akpabio, accusing the leadership of failing Nigerians amid ongoing security concerns.
