Former Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye, has criticised the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over rising debt levels, questioning the utilisation of borrowed funds.
In a strongly worded statement, Melaye compared the current administration’s borrowing pattern with that of former President Muhammadu Buhari. He claimed that while Buhari borrowed about ₦87 trillion during his eight-year tenure with fuel subsidy in place, the Tinubu government has reportedly borrowed ₦157 trillion within three years despite removing subsidy.
Melaye expressed concern over what he described as a lack of visible impact from the borrowed funds, calling on authorities to provide clarity on how the money is being spent.
He further alleged irregularities in the award of a major infrastructure project valued at $13 billion, claiming it was granted without a competitive bidding process to a foreign associate.
