In a recent video on YouTube, the General Overseer of Omega Fire Ministries, Apostle Johnson Suleman, has cautioned against what he described as unhealthy dependency attitudes in modern relationships, urging young people to build self-worth, responsibility, and independence.….......
Speaking during a recent sermon, the cleric illustrated his message with a humorous scenario involving a young woman on a first date who, instead of exercising moderation, orders excessively expensive meals without consideration for the situation or context.
He said the illustration reflects a broader mindset problem in relationships today. “Some people enter relationships not as partners, but as dependents looking for survival,” he remarked.
According to him, relationships are increasingly being approached as financial rescue missions rather than partnerships built on mutual respect, value, and emotional maturity. He warned that such expectations often lead to disappointment and conflict.
“Relationship is not a survival center. It is not a place where you go and expect someone to carry your entire responsibility,” he said.
Apostle Suleman stressed that individuals must prioritize personal development and become valuable in their own right before seeking meaningful relationships. He explained that self-worth and responsibility form the foundation of healthy partnerships.
“If you don’t develop yourself, you will end up placing burdens on others that they were never meant to carry,” he added.
He further emphasized the importance of balanced expectations, noting that both men and women should enter relationships with a mindset of contribution rather than extraction. According to him, dependency weakens relationships, while mutual growth strengthens them.
The cleric concluded by urging young people to focus on building skills, discipline, and emotional maturity, stating that true relationship success is rooted in responsibility, self-development, and respect for one another’s boundaries.
